Town of Massena to be featured on “Communities of Distinction”

MASSENA - NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw will soon be narrating a five-minute promotional video highlighting the town of Massena.

The segment will air at least once on the Discovery Channel as part of a television show hosted by Mr. Bradshaw, will also air 19 other times on regional networks across the U.S.

Mr. Gray said he contacted by producers of the show, “Communities of Distinction,” about possibly featuring Massena on a future episode.

“It’s not cheap. It would cost $20,000,” Mr. Gray said, later clarifying the exact price is $19,800.

If the town were to approve of the expenditure, Mr. Gray said for $20,000, a production team would come to Massena and shoot 60 to 90 minutes of footage highlighting the community. Massena would then own the copyrights to the video and could use it however they see fit. For an additional fee, Mr. Gray said the town could purchase the unused “b-roll” footage and copyrights to that material as well.

Mr. Gray said the idea has earned the support of both the Greater Massena Chamber of Commerce and Business Development Corporation for a Greater Massena.

Over the past several months, the BDC has been discussing updating the promotional video they are currently using, which features former BDC Executive Director Jason Clark.

“The BDC’s current video is a little dated and is about 20 minutes long,” Mr. Gray said, adding the shorter video would be something that could easily “play on a loop at trade shows.

“If we say yes tonight, they’ll probably be here in June,” Mr. Gray said, suggesting they pay for the video using money from their latest gaming compact funds check.

“I think this is a perfect use of compact money,” he said.

Board members agreed and a motion to move forward with the project was unanimously approved.
