A Riverview Correctional Facility inmate was charged by state police Tuesday with attacking a corrections officer last month, a Class C felony.
Troopers allege that Tyrell D. Williams, 28, of Utica, approached a corrections officer at the facility on April 5 at 10:15 p.m. requesting a vegetable chopper. When the officer denied the request, troopers said Mr. Williams became angry, started to argue with the officer and then allegedly punched him in the face. The two began to struggle with each other, at which point Mr. Williams allegedly struck the officer several more times.
State police would not release the name of the officer involved in the alleged assault. He was treated for a cut above his left eye, scratch marks to his right arm, a puncture wound to his right knuckle, a concussion and an injury to left ear drum.
Mr. Williams was arraigned in Ogdensburg City Court and was released back to the custody of the state Department of Corrections.
