MASSENA - A Canton village police officer who also does double duty as a professional bass fisherman received a new sponsor Wednesday - the town of Massena.
Town Supervisor Joseph D. Gray said he had been approached by Chris Flint about the sponsorship, and he thought it was a great idea.
It links us to fishing on the professional level, Mr. Gray said.
As part of the sponsorship deal, which will cost the town $500, Mr. Gray said the towns logo will appear on Mr. Flints jersey, truck and boat.
Mr. Gray also noted Mr. Flint is active on social media and will promote fishing in the township through his Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram accounts.
The sponsorship money will come from the towns latest payment of gaming compact funds.
Mr. Gray said he feels like the money, which is a very small amount, is a good investment.
My intent is to continue promoting fishing as a way to get people to come here and spend money, he said.
A motion to approve the sponsorship was unanimously approved.
Mr. Gray was one of the leaders of the Fish Cap initiative in the region.
