POTSDAM Oral Nick Hillary, the Clarkson mens soccer coach charged with the murder of a 12-year-old Potsdam boy in 2011, is no longer employed at the university.
Kelly O. Chezum, vice president for external relations, confirmed the fact Friday.
Head coach since 2009. Hillary had been placed on administrative leave following his May 15 arrest. Before coming to Clarkson, he was an assistant mens soccer team coach at St. Lawrence University, Canton.
Associate Athletic Director Laurel Kane and assistant mens soccer coach Matt Konecnik will lead the Clarkson team on an interim basis. Ms. Kane was head coach of the womens soccer team for 10 seasons before becoming associate athletic director in 2010, Clarksons website said.
Mr. Konecnik was to enter his third season as the teams top assistant this fall. Before graduating from Clarkson in 2012, the three-time Liberty League All-Academic member had a four-year career with the mens soccer team.
Hillary is jailed in the slaying of Garrett J. Phillips, found strangled Oct. 24, 2011, in his apartment. He faces one count of second-degree murder. He remains jailed without bail pending a bail bond hearing in St. Lawrence County Court.
