COLTON - Those who enjoy grilled chicken, macaroni salad, brownies and lemonade or contributing to a worthy cause are invited to a barbecue beginning at 11 a.m. today at the South Colton Fire Station.
The annual event is hosted by the Colton Volunteer Fire Department and benefits the Colton-Pierrepont Central School Scholarship Fund.
We take money from the proceeds from the barbecue and this year were giving two scholarships, $200 each. The criterion is given to the guidance counselor, and she has the applications for students to apply, fire department Secretary/Treasurer Sharon Andrews said. It has a lot to do with community service and their future plans on how they will be giving back to the community.
The event runs until all attendees have been served.
Every year weve had wonderful community support, and we sell out our chickens. Even last year when it was cold and rainy we sold out. This year were hoping that we have good weather and the continued great community support, Ms. Andrews said.
A full meal is $9 for adults and $8 for seniors. Attendees may purchase a half-chicken meal for $6.
