Massena may be getting new website

MASSENA - The town and village of Massena, as well as the Business Development Corporation for a Greater Massena, may soon be getting a new website.

Referring to the current website, which is shared by all three entities, Town Supervisor Joseph D. Gray said, “The site is dated and cumbersome.”

As the area tries to recruit business and development, Mr. Gray said it is important for them to have a top notch website, something he said they currently do not have.

In order to get such a site, the town has agreed to hire Civic Plus, a web design firm from Manhattan, Kansas at a cost of $23,958.10, which includes a redesign after four years.

“Last year, I put $25,000 aside for website development,” Mr. Gray said, adding the firm offered the town a 15 percent discount that was good until May 31.

Had the town not agreed to hire them before the end of the month, Mr. Gray said the cost would have increased $28,186.

Councilman Albert N. Nicola said before he voted on the resolution he wanted to know if there was an annual fee, to which Mr. Gray replied there was.

“I want to say it’s a couple thousand dollars,” he said.

“Is there a way we can update it?” Councilman John F. Macaulay asked.

Mr. Gray said there was, adding that was one of the top selling points for Civic Plus.

“The best part is we could do some of that ourself,” he said.

Another selling point for Civic Plus was the web site’s compatibility with smart phones and tablets.

“The website resizes itself, so it’s compatible with whatever device you’re using,” he said, adding, “Everyone is using their cell phones these days.”

As is the case with the current website, it would be a joint site also promoting the village and BDC.
