PIERREPONT - Pierrepont town officials approved a bond resolution Tuesday night to pay up to $57,000 for the cost of repairs to their town halls roof.
The town board accepted a bid of up to $57,000 from Gouverneur-based Northern Tier Contracting in April.
Labor will include replacing the existent roofing with asphalt shingles, and the bond payment must be made over a three-year period.
What (the bond resolution) does - just kind of a summary - is that the local finance law requires that when the town borrows money, they do it by this bond resolution, town attorney Eric J. Gustafson said. The nice thing is, the time frame is so short and they allow so much longer on improvements to a building like this under the local finance law. You just have to adopt the resolution and designate (Town Supervisor Thomas E. Latimer) as the person to close the loan on behalf of the town.
The $57,000 price tag comes with a $20,000 contingency built in.
I talked with NBT (Bank) downstate and everything is set to go. They just need to be aware that we signed the resolution, and were putting it in the paper for the 20-day waiting period, Mr. Latimer said. So (the work) will be starting anytime. All we have to do is give them a phone call and everything will be taken care of.
