CANTON - Two people were charged with one count each of prohibited sale of alcohol under the age of 21 following a May 29 underage drinking initiative at 22 retail stores and establishments in St. Lawrence County.
New York State Police charged Connie S. McCallister, 51, of Rensselaer Falls, at McAllister’s Wine and Liquor, 213 Rensselaer St. Rensselaer Falls. She was issued an appearance ticket to appear for June 25 in Canton Town Court.
Troopers also charged Sharon Gushlaw, 25, of Stockholm, at Gandy Dancer Bar, 49 Mechanic St., Norwood. She was issued an appearance ticket for June 19 in Potsdam Town Court.
As part of the investigation, an underage volunteer was sent into each business in an attempt to have the clerk or bartender sell or serve the minor alcohol.
Businesses that were checked and found to be in compliance included Stewarts Shop, 79 Market St., Potsdam; Stewarts Shop, 26 Maple St., Potsdam; Sunoco, 147 Market St., Potsdam; McDuff’s, 59 Market St., Potsdam; Cactus Grill & Cantina, 11 Raymond St., Potsdam; Potsdam IGA, 27 Elm St., Potsdam; Market Lanes Bowling Alley, 144 Market St., Potsdam; and Bessette’s Liquor, 37 Gouverneur St., Canton.
Also checked and found in compliance were The Lounge, 200 Market St., Hackett’s Plaza, Potsdam; Stewarts Shop, 115 East Main St., Canton; Stewarts Shop, 32 Gouverneur St., Canton; Mobil Mountain Mart, 19 Main St., Canton; Nice N Easy, 58 Main St., Canton; Sunoco, 71 East Main St., Canton; Kunoco, 5830 County Route 27, Canton; The Club, 25 Court St., Canton; Jeremiah’s Tavern, 14 Mechanic St., Norwood; Nice N Easy, 72 South Main St., Norwood; Perry’s Big M, 58 Spring St., Norwood; and The Coach Inn, 3 West Main St., Norfolk.
