OGDENSBURG — Julia Ives, 6, has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss New York Pageant, to be held Aug. 14 to 16 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Rochester.
The pageants are held for girls ages 4 to 18. Julia will compete in the age 4-6 division.
The winner will receive a $1,000 cash award, the official crown and banner, a bouquet of roses, and air transportation to compete in the national pageant in California, where she will receive a complementary tour of Hollywood and two VIP tickets to Disneyland.
Each year the pageant nationally awards $1.5 million in cash, scholarships and other prizes, which includes a new Ford Mustang convertible.
All activities for competitions are age-appropriate. Girls under the age of 12 are not allowed to wear makeup, and there is no swimsuit competition. The pageant program is based on inner beauty, poise and presentation. Emphasis in placed on the importance of developing self confidence, good sportsmanship and setting and achieving personal goals.
Julia’s activities include ballet, tap dancing, soccer, T-ball, basketball and Girl Scouts. She enjoys helping others, art, singing, school, making new friends and outdoor life. She is the daughter of Zachary and Ashley Ives, Ogdensburg.
