CANTON — Madrid-Waddington’s Tyler Robinson and Ogdensburg’s Peyton Lalone combined to open the scoring for the FC Freeze U16 season but more importantly hooked up again at the end netting the game winner with .30 seconds remaining in the locals 3-2 win over the Thousand Island Soccer Club in the NNYSL opener on Monday night.
FC Freeze opened the scoring when Lisbon’s Adam Kelly from midfield sent Lalone with a lead pass to the corner where the crafty forward promptly carried the ball to the net and sent a center feed to Robinson who deposited it in the back of the net. After falling behind 2-1, Kelley recorded an assist with a centering pass to Colton-Pierrepont’s Ethan’s Knight who drilled it home to deadlock the game at 2-2.
Following chances at both ends, the locals scored the game winner with Lalone beating his defender on the left side and sliding a pass between defenders to an open Robinson alone in front who finished the play off giving FC Freeze the 3-2 win. Lisbon’s Nick Spooner made 10 saves in his U16 debut with Colton-Pierrepont’s Riley Doyle and Lisbon’s Riley Alberto anchoring the defensive play.
FC Freeze will return to action Saturday at Watertown to play Upstate United SC Fusion at 5 p.m. at the YMCA Fairgrounds.
