POTSDAM - Registration is now under way for the 13th annual Tour de Potsdam 5k walk/run scheduled for July 10.
The race begins at 6 p.m. for the walkers and at 6:30 for the runners on Waverly Street behind the Potsdam Laundry.
All proceeds garnered through the event will benefit the Health Initiative’s Cancer Services Program.
“Our Cancer Services Program provides comprehensive age-appropriate breast, cervical and colorectal screenings,” Race Coordinator Carol Zimmerman said. “All of the money that we raise stays right here in St. Lawrence County. The Health Initiative is something that has been around for 15 years, and it helps us to provide to the community.”
Registration is $15 per person, with the first 100 registrants receiving a free t-shirt.
There is free admission for children 12 and under with a registered adult.
“This is the fifth year that the Health Initiative has sponsored the event. (Participation) has certainly increased the past five years. When we first started, it was about 125 racers and last year it was around 189,” Ms. Zimmerman said. “It’s a nice beautiful trail and really is the tour of Potsdam.”
Registration is available online at gethealthyslc.com or you may register on site beginning at 5 p.m. July 10.
Ms. Zimmerman said that she is expecting another great turnout.
“After the race we have watermelon for racers. It is also the first night of Summerfest, and there is plenty of music there,” she said. “The event is a great evening to socialize, donate to a good cause and get a little bit of physical activity.”
