CANTON — The FC Freeze U18 boys and U12 girls soccer teams pulled away to convincing NNYYSL wins on Thursday.
The FC Freeze U18 boys evened their 2014 summer mark at 1-1 in the NNYYSL with a victory over a shorthanded Thousand Island Soccer Club on Thursday night.
Ten different players got into the scoring column including: Parishville-Hopkington’s Wyatt Snell (2-1), Ogdensburg’s Peyton Lalone (2-1), Potsdam’s Pat Normandin (2-1), Potsdam’s Matt Normandin (1-2), Potsdam’s David Caamano (1-1) and Madrid-Waddington’s Tyler Robinson (2-0) with Ogdensburg’s Nate Peo, Canton’s Kegan Sovay and Lisbon’s Adam Kelley also finding the back of the net and Lisbon’s Nick Spooner collecting four saves in goal.
The locals will return to action on Thursday traveling to General Brown.
FC Freeze U12 girls (2-0-1) traveled to Philadelphia to play host Indian River United Soccer Club (2-2) and came away with a 6-0 win.
Within the first three minutes, FC began their strong attack with shots on goals from Natalie Cowen (Potsdam) and Olivia Mace (Ohio).
At 26:35, Mace fired a goal into the net with an assist going to Katharine Cowen (Potsdam).
At 23:33 mark, Natalie Cowen pounced on a ball the goalie dropped. Cowen dribbled around the goalie and scored her first goal of the season. At 18:28, Mace’s strong shot on goal ricocheted off the goalie and Katharine Cowen scored her first goal of the game. At half-time the score was 3-0 with FC posting 12 shots on goal and IRUSC having none.
In the second half of play, at 27:04, Katharine Cowen fired a shot off the right hand goal post, she settled the ricocheted ball and scored. At 17:30, Cowen intercepted an IRUSC goal kick and drove the ball into the right corner of the net for a hat trick. At 16:40, Sophia Janoyan (Potsdam) threaded the needle with a pass to Katharine Cowen who scored a Texas Hat Trick or Double-Brace (fourth goal of the game).
FC Freeze passed the ball well and this allowed the following players to have shots on goal; Hannah Butler (Canton), Gabrielle Jones, Louisa Moosbrugger (Potsdam), Sophia Janoyan and Clara Maine (Parishville).
FC’s keepers Gabrielle Jones (Potsdam) made four saves and Natalie Cowen made two saves to preserve the win.
FC Freeze will be traveling to IHC in Watertown on Wednesday to play the CAVS Lake Effect starting at 6:30 p.m.
