Massena Chamber Tourney

Enjoys Strong Turnout

MASSENA - The Massena Chamber of Commerce saw another strong turnout for its annual golf tournament held this past Thursday at the Massena Country Club.

Leading the A Flight was the team of Joe Oakes with a 57 followed by Fay Motors with a 58 and Coach’s Corner with a 59.

In the B Flight, Massena Savings & Loan Team 2 placed first followed by Massena Country Club Pro Shot and Jamie Bay.

Triple A Building Center led the C Flight standings followed by Massena Rotary Club and Whalen, Davey and Looney.

The tournament also awarded prizes for team closest to the pin honors on 12 of the 18 holes. Winning teams included; Fay Motors (1), Team Charlie (2), Big Boyz (4), Perry Jacob (5), Akwesasne Chamber of Commerce (8), Fay Motors (10), Mapes-Gibson (11), Fay Motors (13), Seaway Tire (14), Jacobs-Oakes (15), Jamie Bay (16) and Massena Savings & Loan Team 1 (18).

Individual closest to the pin prizes on the five par threes went to Adam King (3), John Bogosian (6), Fay Motors 99), Massena Country Club Pro Shop Grounds (12) and Sons of Amvets (17).

Four prizes were handed out for longest drives. Brent Herne won in the men’s 59-under division. Paul Lambert led the way in the men’s 60-69 division, Lee Baines in the men’s 70-over division and Georgette Davis in the women’s division.

Team Charlie won the skins game.

Massena Ladies Golfers

Host Annual Scramble

MASSENA - The Massena Country Club Ladies’ Golf Association played their annual 9-hole Scramble with teams comprised of golfers from both the 9-hole and 18-hole divisions.

The winning team with a score of 39 consisted of Joan Welch, Jane Layo, Lois Nicandri and Rose Bronchetti.

The ladies’ association followed up the tournament with a mid-season meeting and luncheon hosted by the club’s caterers Mary Lancto and Dede Cappione.

Potsdam TCC Hosting

Ladies Golf Lessons

POTSDAM - The Potsdam Town and Country Club is hosting a Ladies Learning to Play Golf Association on Tuesday afternoons starting June 24.

The 10-week program is slated to run until August 24. The weekly sessions will begin at 4:45 p.m. with a half-hour lesson from head Club Pro Craig Siddon followed at 5:15 p.m. with nine holes of golf with a cart. The sessions end with a drink and appetizer at the clubhouse.

The cost is $30 per session, $125 for five sessions or $200 for 10 sessions.
