MASSENA - Officials with the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Council would like to stress that no financial assistance has been offered to the village of Massena in connection with its waterfront beautification efforts.
The tribe released the following the statement Friday:
“The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe has not formally partnered with the village of Massena in the riverfront restoration. Ms. Jock’s (Environment Division Program Manager Jessica Jock) participation was an offer of technical advice and assistance in planning momentum; she is a program manager at the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Environment Division, a graduate student of Clarkson University and a resident of Massena. No next steps have been proposed or outlined and no financial assistance from the Tribe has been offered. Ms. Jock is an active member of the RAC for restoration of tribal waters and resources. Shoreline and river restoration of the downtown Massena area would be viewed as a favorable project to help achieve RAC and SRMT environmental restoration goals.
“The International St. Lawrence River AOC includes portions of Massena, and all of Akwesasne, and therefore the SRMT’s Environment Division is an active member of the RAC for restoration of tribal waters and resources. “
