MASSENA - The Friends of the Robert Moses State Park Nature Center, Inc., in Massena are pleased to announce that the 2014 Dave Corse Scholarship has been awarded to Carlie Leary, a graduating senior at Massena High School.
Carlie will be attending Eugene Lang in New York City. Her goal is to dedicate her life toward both preserving and repairing the environment. She hopes to educate people on important issues and influence them to become involved and make changes.
Students entering college and majoring in areas of environmental education, recreation, forestry or a related area of study were invited to apply for this $500 scholarship.
Corse was a long-time volunteer and advocate of the Nature Center. He volunteered as an environmental educator and led many programs for school groups and special interest groups at the center. He especially loved to snowshoe and teach visitors “back to the land skills” and outdoor survival. He worked for NYS Parks and the NYS DEC for more than 30 years.
The Friends of the Nature Center hope the legacy of Corse will live on each year as a graduating senior chooses to make a positive impact within the area of environmental studies. The scholarship is offered during April of each year.
