Junior Rovers surge past Chateaugay; U19 team falls to Maples

RAYMONDVILLE - The Norfolk American Legion Post 925 Junior Rivers made a strong recovery from an early deficit in claiming a 16-1 five-inning win over Chateaugay at Memorial Field on Monday.

Daren Taylor led off the game with a double then came around to score on an error before the locals countered with a four-run rally in their first at-bat with out the benefit of a hit. They went on to added six more runs in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth as three different pitchers combined to work the mound in the win - Merrick Taraska (2IP, 4K, 1H), Shane Tiernan (2IP, 2K) and Ryan Newtown (1IP, 2K).

Offensively for the Junior Rovers, Grant VanBuren, Ryan Newtown and Tristen St. Andrews connected for two hits apiece while Nick McKeel had the other hit.

Kiernan Gibson was tagged with the loss.

Coached by Adrian Taraska, the Junior Rovers opened their season with an 18-3 win on the road over the Malone A team. Other team members include; Nathan Bressard, Charles Pryce, Devin Barnhart, Connor Paige, Conner McGraw, Bailey LeBarge and Ethan Marcello.

The Junior Rovers return to action on Wednesday on the road against the Malone B team starting at 5:30 p.m.

U19 ROVERS

Meanwhile, at Father Martin Field in Ogdensburg on Monday, the Norfolk Post 925 Rovers U19 team dropped a 7-1 decision to the Ogdensburg Maples.

Breton LaRose (4IP, 10K, 1H) and Alex Hayes (3IP) combined to one-hit the locals. That lone hit was a homerun over the rightfield field by Isaiah Dillabough.

Alex Cole singled and doubled to drive in two runs for the Maples and DaKota Brady delivered a two-run single.

Miller also doubled and Martin and Zack Kanaly (2 runs) stoked singles while Lefty Arsenault drew three walks and scored a pair of runs.

Mike Burns pitched the first six innings for Norfolk (0-9) and Rory Corcoran worked an inning in relief.

The Rovers are slated to play at Malone this evening.
