MASSENA – Mr. Peter Thomas McGrath, 44, passed away on June 28, 2014 at the Adirondack-Tri-County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in North Creek.

Peter was born on February 14, 1970 in New Milford, Connecticut, the son of the Mary Ann Vivian Verville McGrath and the late John R. “Jack” McGrath of Pawling, New York. He graduated from Massena Central High School in 1990. He was a master welder having educated through the BOCES program and his most recent employment was a corrections officer with the New York State Department of Correctional Services. He loved spending time with his son, Gavin. He was an avid sportsman, outdoorsman who loved fishing, motor cycling, and spending time with his family and friends. Those who knew him best will remember him for his colorful knack for storytelling and his wonderful sense of humor.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Gavin McGrath of Brasher, NY; his mother, Mary Ann Vivian Dobbins of Massena, NY; his siblings and their spouses, Dan and Janine McGrath of Roswell, GA; Marcella and Jerry Laramay of Massena, NY; Colleen and Phil Lautensack of Arlington, TX; Jacqueline and Mark Barney of Queensbury, NY; Patricia and Kevin Shepard of Sandy Hook, CT; Paul McGrath of Massena, NY; and Patrick McGrath of Sandy Hook, CT; and Gavin’s great grandparents, Myrtle Smith and Doug LaFlesh of Brasher Iron Works, NY. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, as well as extended family and friends.

Peter was preceded in death by his father, John R. “Jack” McGrath on November 1, 1986 and his stepfather, William “Bill” Dobbins on July 1, 2011.

A memorial service celebrating Peter’s life will be held August 2, 2014; the location and time to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
