BRASHER FALLS – Mrs. Carla E. Peters, 62, of 178 Hopson Road, unexpectedly passed away Friday morning, June 27, 2014 at Fletcher-Allen Health Center after a brief illness.
Carla was born July 15, 1951 in Canton, the daughter of the late Roy J. and Vera Phillips Snyder. She attended schools at Madrid-Waddington before coming to Massena in the 6th grade. While at Massena High School, she was a Majorette in the marching band, before her graduation in 1969. Carla first married Arthur F. Herbert which later ended in divorce. On January 19, 1982, she married William M. Peters in Massena. Bill predeceased her on June 22, 2010.
Carla once worked for Guy’s Diner and Michelle Audio. She was also the manager for Subway in the St. Lawrence Center Mall for a short time and operated the Homestead Dairy store on West Hatfield Street for many years. Most recently, she was working in the kitchen at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena. Carla loved to cook and do crafts with her grandchildren. In addition, she loved to camp and be around the fire. She truly loved the holidays and loved to have her family around her to share the special holiday memories. Christmas was her favorite time, as she could display her enormous Santa Claus collection. Carla also loved socializing with her many friends around Massena.
Carla is survived by her two sons, Paul and Chris Hebert, both of Brasher Falls; her step children, Tom and Patty Peters of Syracuse; Sue Peters, Billy Peters, and Joe Mattice of Massena; her grandchildren, Cecilia, Brandon, Paul David, Megan, Elizabeth, Andrew, Cherie, and Sammie Jo; and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Henry and Jane Snyder of Potsdam; Roy Steven Snyder and Carla Gebo of Brasher; David and Melissa Snyder of Brasher; and Dana Snyder of Brasher; her sister-in-law, Lori Snyder of Massena; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Carla was predeceased by two sisters, Betsy Gay in infancy and Linda Gravel on November 9, 2007; and a brother, Michael Snyder on June 2, 2011.
Friends may call Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where funeral services celebrating her life will be held Thursday 11:00 AM with Pastor Lee Sweeney, officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Area 2, Massena.
