PARISHVILLE — Jerry G. Moore is running as a Republican in St. Lawrence County District 7 to replace Scott M. Sutherland, R-Pierrepont, who is not seeking re-election.

Mr. Moore will face off against Richard Perkins, Parishville, who is running on the Democratic line.

Mr. Moore resigned as the town of Parishville’s supervisor earlier this year.

“I left the town in really good hands. I really have always wanted to be a legislator. I’m a hard worker and dedicated to service,” Mr. Moore said. “I want to try to help. I’m not going to make any false promises.”

Mr. Moore said he believes his work experience as a manager, building inspector, code enforcement officer and supervisor gives him the background he needs as a legislator.

For example, his experience with the Parishville transfer station could come in handy in dealing with the county’s solid waste issues.

“I think I have something to offer along that line,” he said.

From his view of county government, the issue seems to be on cutting costs.

“It’s getting people to agree on which things,” he said.

Mr. Moore, manager of Loomis Fargo armored car agency, said he plans to start working part-time for the company in January, giving him the time to devote to the county.

“I wouldn’t consider running for it unless I was going to cut back on my job,” he said.
