BRASHER FALLS — The 2014 Northern New York Box Lacrosse season got underway at the Tri-Town Arena on Wednesday night.
In the two High School Division games, Enbridge-St. Lawrence Gas outscored Massena Savings and Loan 11-3 while B&W Quick Stop turned back Goodrich Refrigeration 14-10. The Elementary Division matchup saw Stacey Howlett, DDS, stop Dow Electric 18-12 while the Whites beat the Reds 19-12 in the Adult Division contest.
Each night, individual players from each of the teams competing in the High School and Elementary Divisions are chosen as Players of the Game. The award is sponsored by Powerade.
HIGH SCHOOL DIVISION
Enbridge-SLG 11, Massena S&L 3: Brody Simonds led a balanced attack with three goals and one assist to earn player of the game status in the winning effort. Jah Roberton also tallied three goals and an assist while Isaiah Lyon broke through for a pair of goals.
Player of the game Ian Bresett scored two goals and set up the other by Zach Ward in the losing cause.
B&W Quick Stop 14, Goodrich Refrigeration 10: Jake Sutton led the way as player of the game in the win with four goals and two assists. Kody Kocsis fashioned two goals and two assists while Landon Storrin logged three helpers.
For Goodrich Refrigeration, player of the game Sean Hornung generated two goals and two assists. Carter Rose (1 assist) and Isaac Jandrea netted two goals apiece as well.
The goaltending duo of Parker Hornung (15 saves, 1 goal) and Cash Feeley (16 saves, 3 assists) worked the creases for both games while Myles Bordeleau turned aside six shots between the pipes for one contest.
Stacey Howlett, DDS, 18, Dow Electric 12: Player of the game Will Sullivan anchored the winning effort with three goals. Jayden Ashley scored three times while Tommy Storrin produced two goals and two helpers.
For Dow Electric, player of the game Tanner Race netted three goals along with Johan Beeson while Parker Berkman broke through for a pair of goals.
Whites 19, Reds 12: Cody Kilcoyne scored five goals and set up two others in the winning effort while Cody Burns fashioned four goals and four helpers. Brian LaBier made eight saves and chipped in a goal backstopping the win.
For the Reds, Kevin Logan (1 assist) and Charlie Dullea tallied three goals apiece while Dennis Power worked the crease for seven stops.
Players from throughout the area are invited to compete in the Adult Division game. The teams are determined based on the turnout.
