Thomas E. White, 73, formerly of Ogdensburg and Alexandria Bay passed away Saturday, July 5, at Providence Seward Medical Center, Seward, Alaska. Tom had resided in Seward, Alaska since 1997 .

Born in Ogdensburg, on August 30, 1940, son of the late Philip and Catherine Pilon White, Tom graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1958. Following graduation Tom attended Wadhams Hall Seminary in Ogdensburg and St. John’s Atonement Seminary in Montour Falls, NY. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1969.

Tom had a long and successful career with NAPA. Starting in 1969 with Nate’s NAPA Auto Parts Store in Ogdensburg. In1973 he was named Manager of the enlarged Ogdensburg NAPA store. In 1976, he transferred to the newly established Alexandria Bay NAPA store as the manager. In 1986 Tom purchased the Alexandria Bay NAPA store from Larry Sarkin and served as Owner/Manager until selling the business in 1996. In 1996, Tom fulfilled his lifelong dream of moving to Alaska; first settling in Anchorage and in 1997 relocating in Seward where he continued his employment with the NAPA. In his retirement Tom continued to work part time at the Seward NAPA store. Most recently Tom was a seasonal employee with Premier Alaska Tours where he served as a “Travel Greeter”. Tom took great pleasure in greeting his Northern New York visitors to Alaska.

Tom volunteered regularly at the Food Bank of Seward.

Tom is survived by his dear friend, Joey Garcia of Seward. Three brothers James and Patricia of Sylvan Beach, NY; Louis of Vernon, NY and Deacon John and Mary Lou of Ogdensburg, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Ellen White and Irene White Burns.

Memorial Services will be held July 12th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Seward, Alaska. A Memorial Mass in Tom’s name will be held on Saturday, July 26 at 5:00 PM at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church in Alexandria Bay, NY. Condolences may be shared at Alaskan Funeral.com. Memorial contributions in Tom’s name may be made to the American Diabetes or the American Heart Association.
