Early Jr. Carp Tourney Registration
CANTON – Young carp anglers and parents: register for this year’s St. Lawrence International Junior Carp Tournament on or before Tuesday, July 15, and pay $100, a savings of $25 on each registration. After July 15, registration is $125.
The 12th annual catch-and-release tournament for boys and girls ages 11 to 18 (parents can fish with their kids, too) is August 14 to 16. The registration fee covers the cost of all activities, including the Mort Backus & Sons Fishing School on the 14th, and closing awards ceremony and pizza party.
On the 15th and 16th, anglers fish a 35-mile stretch of the St. Lawrence River, from Massena to Ogdensburg. Winners and runners-up in team, individual, “big fish” and other categories are honored with prizes and some $7,500 in cash awards during the closing ceremony at Madrid-Waddington Central School on the 16th after fishing is completed.

Since 2002, more than 1,300 girls and boys have come to the shores of the St. Lawrence River for what is believed to be the biggest junior carp tournament in the country. British actor Tom Felton – best known as Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films – was the tournament’s first Grand Marshal, in 2002.
The 2014 Grand Marshal is Matt Conger of Ogdensburg, who first fished in the tournament in 2003, and every year thereafter until turning 18.

Clarkson Youth Girls Hockey Camp
POTSDAM — The Clarkson University women’s hockey program, winner of the 2014 NCAA National Championship, will be holding a Girls Youth Hockey Camp at Cheel Arena this summer for Mite, Squirt and PeeWee levels.
A camp will run for girls from August 17-21 for Mite, Squirt and Pee Wee level players ages 7-12. The camp will run from 9 a.m.-noon, Monday through Friday.
Camp highlights will include; skating drills focusing on generating power, skill development focusing on puck handling, passing, shooting and team concepts.
Campers will also be introduced to proper nutrition and hockey specific conditioning. There will be controlled scrimmages supervised daily by coaches and staff.
Cost of the camp is $160 for player and $125 for goalie. Cost for a player of a Clarkson employee is $135. All prices are in U.S. funds. A practice jersey is included.

Youth Soccer Break-Out in Brasher
BRASHER FALLS - Area youth soccer players are invited to participate in the Brasher Break-out on Saturday, July 19, at St. Lawrence Central.
The small-sided play day is open to all U6-U18 players from Section 10 schools. The cost is $50 per team with each team guaranteed three games. Teams will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
The U6 division will be 3-on-3 with no goaltenders and games will consist of eighth-minute quarters. U8 games will be 4-on-4 with no goalies and 20-minute halves. For U10, the game will be 6-on-6 with a goal and 20-minute halves. Games in the U12-U18 divisions will be 8-on-89 with a goal and 20-minute halves.
Organizers are seeking high school players to referee the U6-U10 games. League referees will be working the games for the U12-U18 divisions.
A concession stand will be on the site as well.

SUNY Canton Golf Classic August 16
CANTON - The SUNY Canton Athletic department will host the 13th annual Kangaroos Golf Classic on Saturday, August 16, at Partridge Run Golf and Country Club in Canton.
The cost is $75 per person and the format is a four-person captain and crew. Teams will be flighted based on handicaps and teams can be all male, female or mixed. There will be a shotgun start at 11 a.m.
The entry fee includes 18 holes of golf and a cart, a hot dog and drink on the course, a tournament gift and gift bag, and a steak dinner at the course provided by Mulligans immediately after the tournament. Cost for guests at the dinner is $20.
There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes in each flight, hole-in-one prizes, putting contests, closest to the pin contests, longest and straightest drive contests and Par 3 Poker for cash.

Canton PeeWee Mud Run July 19
CANTON - Looking for a fun, muddy way to spend a summer day that also raises funds for community causes?
The Canton Pee Wee Mud Run is scheduled for Saturday, July 19, starting at 10 a.m. at 533 Plains Road.
Registration fee at the event is $40 for children under 12 it is $25.

Mall Arena Girls Hockey Camp Set
MASSENA - The St. Lawrence Centre Arena is hosting a girls hockey camp on Saturday, July 19, for players born 2002-2007.
This camp will be held 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and includes both on-ice and off-ice instruction, a guest fitness instructor, and an included lunch. Participants must have full hockey equipment and will need an extra set of comfortable clothing for off-ice activities.
The instructors for this camp are two local hockey standouts, Alison Greene and Alexa Cappione. Greene currently plays D-III NCAA hockey for the Norwich Cadets as a forward. She has been a youth hockey instructor at the St. Lawrence Centre Arena for the past two years. Cappione currently plays D-III NCAA hockey for the UMass Boston Beacons as a defenseman. She will be going into her third year of her college career this fall.
The cost per player is $55. This camp is limited to 20 players.
Second Norwood Duathlon Race July 22
NORWOOD - The second leg of the always popular Norwood Beach Duathlon series will be held Tuesday, July 22.
Registration at the pavilion begins at 6 p.m. and the race will start at 6:30 p.m. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent signature on the registration form in order to participate.
The final race in the series will be held on Tuesday, August 19.
Once again the series is open to individuals and teams. The entry fee is $15 for the series which includes a tee-shirt. The entry fee for a single duathlon is $5 and t-shirts will be available for $5.
All proceeds will go to the John Purvis Memorial Scholarship Fund at Norwood-Norfolk Central School.

Junior Golf Clinics at Massena CC
MASSENA - The Massena Country Club will be hosting a series of golf clinics for junior golfers.
The clinics are slated for Tuesday mornings (July 15, July 22) starting at 9 a.m. They will cover all aspects of the game including but not limited to; etiquette, grip, stance, Alignment, metalwoods, iron play, chipping, pitching, bunker shots, putting and the rules of golf.
Club pros Tom Siddon and Brent Smith will be serving as instructors. The cost is $30 per student and the clinics will be open to the first 20 students to register.

Ladies Golf Lessons at PTCC
POTSDAM - The Potsdam Town and Country Club is hosting a Ladies Learning to Play Golf Association on Tuesday afternoons until August 24.
The weekly sessions will begin at 4:45 p.m. with a half-hour lesson from head Club Pro Craig Siddon followed at 5:15 p.m. with nine holes of golf with a cart. The sessions end with a drink and appetizer at the clubhouse.
The cost is $30 per session or $125 for five.

MASSENA - The Massena Hall of Fame Golf Tournament is slated for Sunday, July 27, at the Massena Country Club.
The event features a two-person scramble format and is slated to begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
The cost is $10 for club members and $25 for non-members. A putting contest is part of the event as well.
