CANTON — A Hammond man was returned to the St. Lawrence County Jail with bail continued at $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond after pleading not guilty to multiple sex charges during his arraignment before St. Lawrence County Judge Jerome J. Richards.
Robert M. Petrie Jr., 44, of 6 Bailey Road, was indicted by a St. Lawrence County grand jury July 7 on 48 counts for allegedly sexually assaulting a 12-year-old child between the summer of 2013 and February. He was indicted on 24 counts of predatory sexual assault against a child, 24 counts of first-degree criminal sexual act and one count of first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, all felonies, and an additional class-A misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of child.
Each count of predatory sexual assault against a child, which is an A-II felony, carries a 25-years-to-life prison sentence.
Petrie was arrested March 25 by St. Lawrence County sheriff’s investigators and charged with one count of first-degree criminal sex act.
According to the 26-page indictment, he engaged in sex acts with the child in the town of Macomb on weekends in June, July and August 2013, during Thanksgiving Day weekend, “on or about winter break soon after Jan. 1” and during weekends in February.
