POTSDAM - Voters in the Potsdam Central School District overwhelmingly approved a $350,000 capital project that will renovate the former Building Blocks Day Car building.

The renovations will be paid for by building aid from the state of New York, with St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES paying the 17 percent local share.

Voters authorized the work by a vote of 202-31.

Potsdam Superintendent Patrick H. Brady said the project will immediately enter its design phase before being sent to the state education department for approval. Once approved by the state, the project will then be put out to bid in hopes of construction starting next summer.

Mr. Brady said he’s optimistic the project will be completed in time for BOCES to lease the building for the start of the 2015-2016 school year.

BOCES is planning to house a special education program for students with autism inside the building.
