Junior Carp Tournament August 14-16
CANTON – The St. Lawrence International Junior Carp Tournament is slated for August 14-16.
The 12th annual catch-and-release tournament for boys and girls ages 11-18. Parents can fish with their children. The registration fee of $125 covers the cost of all activities, including the Mort Backus & Sons Fishing School on the 14th, and closing awards ceremony and pizza party.
On the 15th and 16th, anglers fish a 35-mile stretch of the St. Lawrence River, from Massena to Ogdensburg. Winners and runners-up in team, individual, “big fish” and other categories are honored with prizes and some $7,500 in cash awards during the closing ceremony at Madrid-Waddington Central School on the 16th after fishing is completed.

Since 2002, more than 1,300 girls and boys have come to the shores of the St. Lawrence River for what is believed to be the biggest junior carp tournament in the country. British actor Tom Felton – best known as Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films – was the tournament’s first Grand Marshal, in 2002.
The 2014 Grand Marshal is Matt Conger of Ogdensburg, who first fished in the tournament in 2003, and every year thereafter until turning 18.

Final Hoswegatchie Duathlon Race Aug. 13
OGDENSBURG - The final race of the Hoswegatchie Duathlon Series will be held Wednesday, August 13, and will be headquartered at Hosmer’s Marina on Ogdensburg.
The race starts at 6 p.m. sharp and is open everyone from beginners to experienced racers ages 13 and up.
Each participant must check in to receive a wristband to run the race. Team members must check in together. The increments of each race are: a 1.5-mile run, an 8 mile bike ride and a 1.5 mile run.
The event can be done by a single person or a team of two or three racers.
The entry fee is $10 per race, per person. All entries will receive a free drink (hard or soft) at Hosmer’s Marina after each race.
A portion of the proceeds of the series will be benefit the OFA Marching Blue Devils Band.

Clarkson Youth Girls Hockey Camp
POTSDAM — The Clarkson University women’s hockey program, winner of the 2014 NCAA National Championship, will be holding a Girls Youth Hockey Camp at Cheel Arena this summer for Mite, Squirt and PeeWee levels.
A camp will run for girls from August 17-21 for Mite, Squirt and Pee Wee level players ages 7-12. The camp will run from 9 a.m.-noon, Monday through Friday.
Camp highlights will include; skating drills focusing on generating power, skill development focusing on puck handling, passing, shooting and team concepts.
Campers will also be introduced to proper nutrition and hockey specific conditioning. There will be controlled scrimmages supervised daily by coaches and staff.
Cost of the camp is $160 for player and $125 for goalie. Cost for a player of a Clarkson employee is $135. All prices are in U.S. funds. A practice jersey is included.

SUNY Canton Golf Classic August 16
CANTON - The SUNY Canton Athletic department will host the 13th annual Kangaroos Golf Classic on Saturday, August 16, at Partridge Run Golf and Country Club in Canton.
The cost is $75 per person and the format is a four-person captain and crew. Teams will be flighted based on handicaps and teams can be all male, female or mixed. There will be a shotgun start at 11 a.m.
The entry fee includes 18 holes of golf and a cart, a hot dog and drink on the course, a tournament gift and gift bag, and a steak dinner at the course provided by Mulligans immediately after the tournament. Cost for guests at the dinner is $20.
There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes in each flight, hole-in-one prizes, putting contests, closest to the pin contests, longest and straightest drive contests and Par 3 Poker for cash.

Final Summer Sunset Run August 12
CANTON - The Stillman Foote Running Club will hold the final race of the 2014 Summer Sunset 5K Series on Tuesday, August 12, at 7:30 p.m. on the Stillman Foote cross-country course on the St. Lawrence University campus.
This summer marks the 35th season for the series which attracts hundreds of runners and walkers of all abilities from Northern New York and Canada to compete on the fast, flat 3.1 mile loop course at SLU. Participants will be competing to earn a coveted Summer Sunset T-shirt which will be awarded to those completing all three events.
In addition to the 5K race, a one-mile fun run will be held. Designed for young runners, walkers, and beginning runners, the one-mile event will begin at 7:15 p.m., prior to the 5K start. Competitors in all three one-mile runs will also receive T-shirts.
Registration for the race will begin at 6:30 p.m. across Park Street from the Augsbury Physical Education Center on the SLU campus. The entry fee is $2 (US & Canadian).

NNY Senior Golf Championship August 7
MASSENA - The Northern New York Men’s and Women’s Senior Golf Championship will be held at the Massena Country Club on Thursday, August 7.
The event is once again sponsored by Community Bank NA and will have more than $3,500 in prizes awarded to low net, low gross and special prize winners. More than 140 golfers turned out for last year’s tournament.
Competitors will be division into six flights for both men and women - ages 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-over. Prizes will be awarded to the low net and low gross winners in each division.
For those chosing to use a cart, the entry fee is $47 for Massena CC members and $65 for non-members. The entry fee for those interested in walking the course is $35 for members and $50 for non-members.
The tournament begins with shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and will conclude with a dinner and awards’ ceremony at 5:30 p.m. The entry fee covers the entire day’s activities.

Bradshaw Memorial Golf Outing Aug. 22
POTSDAM - Supporters of Golden Knights Athletics are invited to participate in the 2014 John Bradshaw Memorial Golf Outing on Friday, August 22, at the Potsdam Town & Country Club.
Lunch and registration open at noon followed by a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The cost of $100 per golfer includes greens fees, cart and entry into a skins game. Teams may also purchase mulligans at cost of $2 each with each team allowed a maximum of 10. Mulligans can be used anywhere by on the greens.
Prizes will be awarded for the top two teams and the top women’s team. There will also prizes for closest-to-the-pin, longest drive and any hole-in-ones along with a putting challenge and chance to win Pro Shop credit.

Brushton Fun to Run August 9
BRUSHTON - The first edition of the Brushton Fun to Run event is slated for Saturday, August 9, at 10 a.m.
The event will offer 5K and 10K foot races along with a 1-mile walk on the Brushton-Moira Central cross country course. The cost for the 5K and 10 runs is $30 per person and for the walk is $25 with all the money raised going to the benefit of the cross country and Dollars for Scholars programs at BMC.
All participants will receive a short with their paid registration. The top three finishers in each male and female age division for the 5K and 10K runs will receive medals.

Louisville Hockey 16U Tryouts Set
MASSENA - The Louisville Minor Hockey Association will be holding tryouts for its 16U Tier III state tournament eligible boys team at the St. Lawrence Centre Mall Arena the first weekend in August.
Sessions are slated for Friday, August 1, from 7-8 p.m., Saturday, August 2, from 11 a.m.-noon, and Sunday, August 3, from 9:45-10:45 a.m.
The cost to tryout is $20 which covers all three sessions. Any players who did not play for Louisville Minor Hockey last winter must have a signed release before being allowed to go on the ice.

Clarkson Baseball Development Camp
POTSDAM - The Clarkson University Baseball program has announced that it will conduct its seventh annual Player Development Camp on Sunday, September 28.
Registration will begin at 9 p.m. and the event will run until 3 p.m. and is open to seniors, juniors and sophomores graduating prior to 2017.
The cost is $75 and is open to all players who fit the stated requirements. Included in this event will be time on the field for instruction and evaluation, a t-shirt, and lunch.

Ladies Golf Lessons at PTCC
POTSDAM - The Potsdam Town and Country Club is hosting a Ladies Learning to Play Golf Association on Tuesday afternoons until August 24.
The weekly sessions will begin at 4:45 p.m. with a half-hour lesson from head Club Pro Craig Siddon followed at 5:15 p.m. with nine holes of golf with a cart. The sessions end with a drink and appetizer at the clubhouse.
