POTSDAM — Former Clarkson University women’s hockey player Vanessa Gagnon has been selected as the ECAC Hockey representative for the 2014 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Gagnon is one of more than 120 female athletes from NCAA Divisions I, II and III who have been selected as an honoree.

The top 30 will be honored, and the winner announced on Oct. 19. The award honors athletes for achievements in athletics, academics, community service and leadership.

Gagnon, who was an assistant captain for Clarkson’s national championship team, scored 18 goals and added 15 assists along with a plus-43 rating. She has a 4.0 grade-point average while pursuing a master’s degree in business administration.

The St. Lawrence University men’s hockey team will seek a new assistant coach after Kris Mayotte left to take an assistant’s job at Providence College. The former Union College goaltender from 2002-06 leaves the Saints after two seasons to work for his ex-coach at Union, Nate Leaman.
