Lois G. Aldous


Lois G. Aldous, 92, of Orange City, Fl (formally of Potsdam and Canton, NY), died peacefully on July 24, 2014. She was born May 20, 1922 in Potsdam, NY to H.E. and Dorothy Hazen Grant. A brother, C.L. (Pat) Grant died in 1989.

She graduated from Potsdam High School in 1939. She then graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, Hotel Dieu Hospital in Cornwall, Ont. She married E.G. (Bud) Gilson in 1945. They lived in Potsdam, Massena, and Schenectady, where she worked as a nurse. They were divorced in 1968.

In 1970, she married Erwin W. Aldous, who died in 1997. Following her nursing career, she worked as a social worker for St. Lawrence County from 1966 until 1981. She lived in Orange City Fl. from 1987 until her death.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Anastasia and Richard L. Powers, 3 grandchildren, Lee Ann Powers-Frary, Hopkinton, NY, Christopher Powers, Melbourne, Fl, Michelle McGill, Parishville, NY, 10 great-grandchildren, Amanda Wilson, Jessica Eakins, William Frary, Abigayle Frary, Tallisyn Powers, Bailey Powers, Carissa Powers, Brant Powers, Garrett McGill, Audrey McGill, and 1 great-grandchild, Leah St. Hilaire. She is also survived by step-children, John and Susan Aldous, Provo, Utah, Sandra and Larry Colbert, Canton, NY, Janet and Richard Hann, Massena, NY, Susan and Steve Stapleton, Springfield, Ohio , and many step-grand and great-grandchildren whom she loved.

She loved writing, acting and her grandchildren. “And that was all she wrote!” Just “Remember me.”

There will be no services. Arrangements under the direction of Lankford Funeral Home and Crematory of Deland, Fl. and Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam, NY.
