Junior Carp Tournament August 14-16
CANTON – The St. Lawrence International Junior Carp Tournament is slated for August 14-16.
The 12th annual catch-and-release tournament for boys and girls ages 11-18. Parents can fish with their children. The registration fee of $125 covers the cost of all activities, including the Mort Backus & Sons Fishing School on the 14th, and closing awards ceremony and pizza party.
On the 15th and 16th, anglers fish a 35-mile stretch of the St. Lawrence River, from Massena to Ogdensburg. Winners and runners-up in team, individual, “big fish” and other categories are honored with prizes and some $7,500 in cash awards during the closing ceremony at Madrid-Waddington Central School on the 16th after fishing is completed.

Since 2002, more than 1,300 girls and boys have come to the shores of the St. Lawrence River for what is believed to be the biggest junior carp tournament in the country. British actor Tom Felton – best known as Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films – was the tournament’s first Grand Marshal, in 2002.
The 2014 Grand Marshal is Matt Conger of Ogdensburg, who first fished in the tournament in 2003, and every year thereafter until turning 18.

NNY Senior Golf Championship August 7
MASSENA - The Northern New York Men’s and Women’s Senior Golf Championship will be held at the Massena Country Club on Thursday, August 7.
The event is once again sponsored by Community Bank NA and will have more than $3,500 in prizes awarded to low net, low gross and special prize winners. More than 140 golfers turned out for last year’s tournament.
Competitors will be division into six flights for both men and women - ages 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-over. Prizes will be awarded to the low net and low gross winners in each division.
For those chosing to use a cart, the entry fee is $47 for Massena CC members and $65 for non-members. The entry fee for those interested in walking the course is $35 for members and $50 for non-members.
The tournament begins with shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and will conclude with a dinner and awards’ ceremony at 5:30 p.m. The entry fee covers the entire day’s activities.

Final Summer Sunset Run August 12
CANTON - The Stillman Foote Running Club will hold the final race of the 2014 Summer Sunset 5K Series on Tuesday, August 12, at 7:30 p.m. on the Stillman Foote cross-country course on the St. Lawrence University campus.
This summer marks the 35th season for the series which attracts hundreds of runners and walkers of all abilities from Northern New York and Canada to compete on the fast, flat 3.1 mile loop course at SLU. Participants will be competing to earn a coveted Summer Sunset T-shirt which will be awarded to those completing all three events.
In addition to the 5K race, a one-mile fun run will be held. Designed for young runners, walkers, and beginning runners, the one-mile event will begin at 7:15 p.m., prior to the 5K start. Competitors in all three one-mile runs will also receive T-shirts.
Registration for the race will begin at 6:30 p.m. across Park Street from the Augsbury Physical Education Center on the SLU campus. The entry fee is $2 (US & Canadian).

The league will sponsor three divisions. Flag Division is for players going into grades K-2. The cost is $45 to register and includes a t-shirt. The Minors Division is for players going into grades 3-4. The cost is $85 and includes the use of league uniforms and equipment. The Majors Division is for players entering grades 5-6. The cost to register is $85 and includes use of league uniforms and equipment.

Louisville Minor Hockey Registration
LOUISVILLE - Louisville Minor Hockey has announced its registration dates for the 2013-14 season.
Sessions are slated for August 5 and August 7 from 7-9 p.m. and on August 9 from 9 a.m.-noon at the Louisville Arena.
All players must come with their printed out confirmation sheet from USA hockey or they will not be allowed to register with Louisville Minor Hockey. Registration and Raffle fees are due at this time. Louisville offers state bound teams for PeeWees, Bantams and Midgets along with U6, U8 and Squirts house teams.
The association is seeking coaches at all levels.
Four ice slots per week per team. No late registrations except 6-under will be accepted.

Brushton Fun to Run August 9
BRUSHTON - The first edition of the Brushton Fun to Run event is slated for Saturday, August 9, at 10 a.m.
The event will offer 5K and 10K foot races along with a 1-mile walk on the Brushton-Moira Central cross country course. The cost for the 5K and 10 runs is $30 per person and for the walk is $25 with all the money raised going to the benefit of the cross country and Dollars for Scholars programs at BMC.
All participants will receive a short with their paid registration. The top three finishers in each male and female age division for the 5K and 10K runs will receive medals.

Louisville Hockey 16U Tryouts Set
MASSENA - The Louisville Minor Hockey Association will be holding tryouts for its 16U Tier III state tournament eligible boys team at the St. Lawrence Centre Mall Arena this coming weekend.
Sessions are slated for Friday, August 1, from 7-8 p.m., Saturday, August 2, from 11 a.m.-noon, and Sunday, August 3, from 9:45-10:45 a.m.
The cost to tryout is $20 which covers all three sessions. Any players who did not play for Louisville Minor Hockey last winter must have a signed release before being allowed to go on the ice.

Final Norwood Duathlon Race August 19
NORWOOD - The final race of the always popular Norwood Beach Duathlon series will be held Tuesday, August 19.
Registration at the pavilion begins at 6 p.m. and the race will start at 6:30 p.m. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent signature on the registration form in order to participate.
Once again the series is open to individuals and teams. The entry fee is $5 and t-shirts will be available for $5.
All proceeds will go to the John Purvis Memorial Scholarship Fund at Norwood-Norfolk Central School.

Salmon River Fall Sports Physicals
FORT COVINGTON - Salmon River Central High School and Middle School sport physicals for the upcomming school year will be held from 3:45-6:45 p.m. on August 6 and August 13.
