OGDENSBURG — The Norfolk Post 925 Rovers made good on their second chance to close out the Ogdensburg Maples in Tuesday’s U18 Baseball action at Father Martin Field.

In the bottom of the ninth inning with the tying runs at second and thirdbase, shortstop Jake Vierno ranged up the middle to snare a groundball and made a strong throw to firstbase to secure a 7-5 victory.

Vierno also pitched the first seven innings of the contest where the Maples pulled into a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run infield single by Andrew Cole.

Isaac Ward picked the victory with a two-inning stint in relief and Alex Hayes suffered the loss after relieving Maples’ starter Mike Martin in the seventh inning.

Isaiah Dillabough lined four singles and scored two runs for the Rovers, who scored three times in the top of the ninth inning.

Mike Burns stroked his second single of the game in the ninth and Brandon Noble completed a four-hit day with a single.

In previous at bats, Noble ripped two singles and a triple.

Zach Brock and Josh LaShomb stroked two singles and Vierno added a single.

Andrew Cole and Peyton Lalone each singled twice for the Maples and Lefty Arsenault connected for a double. Bryant Wentworth, Jordan Miller and Karter VanArnam added singles for the Maples, who host Brockville tonight and visit Norfolk at Memorial Field in Raymondville on Thursday.
