To The Editor:
As a DAV and a VFW I’m upset for more reasons than one. I’ve served and still will at the drop of a hat for our country. I would hope and expect for respect from the government as well.
Decades ago when I was a mere 17 years old, a 19 year old female insisted on taking me for a ride. I’m still fighting this horrible situation. The child in question is 25 years old now. I served in our armed forces honorably, loyally and with no regret at the age of 17. My name is not on the child in questions birth certificate. I heard nothing of child support until I returned to try and become a civilian again.
I joined not only for our country, not only to support this alleged child, not only for us Americans and our families. Politicians are too busy policing the world. I joined to protect the USA, not Iraq, Saudi, Israel, Cuba, etc. Seventeen different countries had me.
My point is this, now NYS has taken my driver’s license, had me in jail, and taken my vehicle, I am paying my arrears for the alleged child with a limited amount of income, not to mention the other four children I support. My point is, 1. How can I pay with no license? 2. How can I pay with no vehicle? 3. How can I pay from jail?
The courts are supposed to protect and serve us (especially veterans), not serve us warrants, unless it’s a horrible crime.
That’s my triple jeopardy. Please let’s stand together and righten this wrong.
