MASSENA - As the Massena Nursery School continues its fundraising efforts heading into the 2014-2015 school year, it is preparing to host its first 5K walk/run.
The Trot for Tots will be held at 9 a.m. on Aug. 9 at the John Story trail on the campus of Massena Central School.
Nursery School Board President Renee Barto said putting on an event like this is part of the school’s efforts to involve the entire community in its fundraising efforts, not just the parents of its students.
“The main thing is we’re trying to have a diverse offering of fundraisers that involve the whole community,” Ms. Barto said.
The walk/run is a non-competitive event designed for both children and adults, she said, adding water and fruit will be provided.
Those looking to register in advance may do so on-line at the link included below.
Registration is $20 for adults, $5 for children ages 12 and under, with children 2 and under able to participate for free.
Ms. Barto said it’s her understanding that most walk/runs cost between $25 and $30, so they priced their event so that a mother or father could participate with their son or daughter without having to pay more than they normally would.
“We wanted to include children in this event,” she said.
Adults who register by the end of the day today will receive a free T-shirt.
For those who would rather wait until the day of the event, Ms. Barto said they will have a limited number of T-shirts for both children and adults available for sale.
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will take place in a tent set up by the school’s soccer field.
