POTSDAM — The village’s evaluation of what to do with the much loved downtown Manchurian pear trees has stalled.
Mayor Steven W. Yurgartis said Monday he won’t make a decision until he gets a clearer picture of the spraying option from St. Lawrence Nurseries owner William L. MacKentley.
“I have been struggling to get information from Mr. MacKentley,” said Mr. Yurgartis.
Mr. MacKentley said previously an organic spray might prevent the pear trees from setting fruit.
Mr. Yurgartis said he discussed the issue with the nursery owner Monday morning, and Mr. MacKentley agreed to provide additional information on the spray.
Until then the trees are safe, according to Mr. Yurgartis.
“The pear trees are currently in no danger,” he said. “We’re still in that evaluation phase.”
