Joseph Harry Rider, a lifelong resident of Massena until he and his wife Rubena moved to Florida in 2003, passed away August 3rd at his home in North Fort Myers. Joe, was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy Seabees. He was married to Rubena Jane Adams in 1950. Joe retired from the United States Post Office in the late 1980’s after over 30 years as a postal clerk at the Main St. office. Joe was also known for his part time bartending at many of Massena’s local establishments from the 1960’s to the 1980’s, as well as Pinkerton Security at Robert Moses State Park. Joe was predeceased by his wife Rubena (Adams) Rider in February of 2012. He is survived by his son, Thomas Rider, and daughter-in-law Linda Rider of Punta Gorda, Florida, his daughter Bonnie Lucia of Helena, NY, 6 granddaughters and 9 great grandchildren.
A quiet family remembrance will be conducted and in lieu of flowers the family asks that any desire to gift in “Joe’s” memory be made to the National Council on Aging.
