AWKESASNE – Mrs. Bertha Armstrong Horne, 89, of 189 St. Regis Road, passed away Friday morning, August 8, 2014 in Massena.

Bertha was born July 3, 1925 in Snye, Quebec, the daughter of the late Frank and Katie Roundpoint Armstrong and also attended schools in Snye. She married Elmer Horne in Buffalo; he predeceased her on June 9, 1974.

Bertha was a waitress at various restaurants for many years in New York City and returned back to Akwesasne in 1989. She was a communicant of St. Regis Catholic Church and a member of the St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizens. Bertha truly enjoyed doing the work she did and after her retirement she enjoyed going out to dinner and spending time with her friends, especially Margie Beaubien.

Bertha is survived by her children, Ronald and Mary Beth Horn, Kevin Horn, and Nelva and Glen Diabo, all of Kahnawake; and Janice Horn of Shawnaga, Ontario; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her two sisters, Edith Armstrong and Irene Potter and two brothers, Noah and Alfred Armstrong.

Friends may call Sunday 2-7 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where funeral services will be held Monday 11:00 AM with Rev. Jack L. Downs, officiating. Burial will follow in Kateri Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider the Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance Service.
