Morin notches first Cornwall Speedway Modified Feature win


CORNWALL, Ont. - The Cornwall Motor Speedway presented a full show for all categories along with a special 25-lap Mini-Stock event on Cayer Motor Sales.

Gage Morin was the early leader in the 30-lap Jiffy Auto Services Modified Feature event as Chris Herbison and Laurent Ladouceur were quickly behind the leader. Herbison used the high lane and passed Morin for the lead outside of turn 4 on lap number 6. The leaders were in lap traffic by lap ten and Herbison got caught behind a lap car as Morin used this situation to grab the lead on lap 13. Morin was able to get a good distance from Herbison as Chris Raabe was now running in third with five laps to go. Morin never looked back and won his first feature of the year in the caution free event over Raabe, who made a final lap pass on Herbison for second.

In the Wheeler-Forget Royal Lepage 20-lap Sportsman feature as Mitch Primeau took the lead over Ricky Thompson and Jean-Nicholas Gareau in third. The feature went for three laps as Louie Jackson and Jasmine David tangled in the backstretch and yellow was out. Primeau still the leader as Robert Delormier was on the move as he took the lead on lap 7 just before a caution came out for an accident involving point’s leader Corey Wheeler. Delormier to the lead but had issues with his mount at halfway point slowing down and giving the lead to Mike Maresca as Shane Pecore was now in second. Maresca in front with Justin Lalancette in third as Wheeler slowed in the backstretch with six laps to go. Pecore did not waste any time and took the top spot over Maresca on the restart. Pecore went on to capture his fourth feature of the year over Lalancette, who made a pass in the final turn over Maresca, who completed the podium.

Rosco Garreau lead the field in the 20-lap Alexandria Home Hardware Pro-Stock feature as Marc Lalonde used the high side to pass Garreau for the lead on lap 3. An accident occurred on lap 5 slowing the field down. Lalonde in the lead as several cars were in battle for the second position. Dave Bissonnette made his in way in the lead pack and used the top side to pass Lalonde for the first position on lap 13. Bissonnette led the final laps to win his third event of 2014 over Lalonde and Stéphane Lebrun.

A strong field of 16 cars were on hand for the 15-lap Laminacorr Semi-Pro feature as Nick Gauvreau was the early leader; Gauvreau led the first three laps. Derek Cryderman and Junior Delormier swapped the lead in before Cryderman claiming the lead at halfway point and never looked back to win his third event of the season over Pascal Racette and Kevin Fetterly.

The 25-lap Mini-Stock feature was the first event of the evening with a field of 15 cars taking the initial green. Riley McGonagle took the lead as Jean-Francois Page was running in second. The first caution occurred on the fifth lap for Quincy Roberts. Marc Dagenais was strong and took the lead on lap 7 over McGonagle. Dagenais survived several cautions as invader Quincy Roberts made his way up to second spot with 5 laps to go. Roberts made a charge on Dagenais but he could not pass him and Dagenais went to collect his second feature of the season over Quincy Roberts and Chris James completed the podium.

This coming Sunday, a full show in all five divisions as the Pro-Stock will have a special Dash for Cash sponsored by Bandit Motorsports.
