AKWESASNE - After a week off last Friday night, Mohawk International Raceway will get right back to business this week as Adirondack Power Sports present an action packed night of racing featuring the Modifieds, Sportsman, Mod Lites and Bandits as well as the Mohawk Race Parts Pro Stock Series.
Point championship battles are heating up in all classes as the 2014 regular season comes to an end in just three weeks. Friday night’s races could be pivotal as to who is holding the championship trophy at the end of month. Billy Dunn holds a 28 point advantage coming into this weekend’s events but Chris Raabe, Danny O’Brien, Carey Terrance and Brian McDonald are all within striking distance. Corey Wheeler holds a 45 point advantage over Dylan Evoy in his quest for a second consecutive title in the Sportsman division. Mathieu Robinson holds a 32 point advantage over Jessie Hudson in the Mod Lite class, while the bandit division is currently led by Randy Whitting with Matt Zira in pursuit.
As you all know, last Saturday night we lost a talented young competitor with the Empire Super Sprints. We encourage all of our race fans to wear orange on Friday night in honor of Kevin Ward Jr. Kevin has raced with us at Mohawk International Raceway several times in the past and is a race winner here with the ESS club on July 6, 2012.
August will be a big month for the MIR Kids Club, it is free to sign up, and there are some great prizes to be given away each week. This evening and the next Friday, Mohawk Raceway will send a young fan home with an Apple iPad Mini 16GB device, and on Friday, August 29, the track will give out an Applie iPad Air 16GB device. Kids Club members must be present to be eligible to win.
General Admission for Friday night is just $12 for adults. Children 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult. Pit admission is $30 for DIRTcar Members and $35 for non-members.
