Funeral Services for John E. McCabe, 82 years old, the son of John B. McCabe and Francis Recore, will be held Tuesday August 19, 2014 at St. Mary’s Cathedral at 10:00AM with Father James F Shurtleff officiating. Calling hours will be held 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00PM on Monday, August 18, 2014 at Frary Funeral Home.

McCabe was born on February 10, 1932. A graduate of St. Mary’s Academy, the class of ’49, he joined the United States Air Force; his tour of duty took place in Morocco during the Korean Conflict. He later graduated from Ogdensburg Business School. On October 20th 1962 he married Lucy Tombolillo 1994 , he retired from Niagara Mohawk, as a Right of Way agent. Following his retirement, he and his wife moved to Davenport, Florida.

In Florida, he worked for Publix Grocery Stores for 10 years, participated in the Home Association in their development of Loma Del Sol where they resided, continued to be active in the Knights of Columbus, following activity in previous homes of Gouverneur and Potsdam, New York, where he attained the title of Navigator and Master of the Fourth Degree, and was a member of both St. Jude’s Maronite Catholic Church in Orlando, Florida and Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Celebration, Florida. As a member of the K of C, he founded several councils across the north country, and participated in the creation of a council at St. Jude’s Maronite Church. His hobbies included fishing, playing cards, and he enjoyed being Santa Claus for Publix Stores during the favorite.time of the year and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Lucy of 52 years, and three children: Pamela McCabe Roberts and her husband Randy of Cincinnati, Ohio; Timothy McCabe of Potsdam, New York; Colleen McCabe Richter and her husband Keith, and two grand children, Jonathan Atchie and Emily Richter. He is also survived by his brother Gerald McCabe of Ogdensburg, his sisters: Carolyn Trombley; of Florida Rosemary Joannette, of Ogdensburg and several nieces and nephews. He expired due to complications after surgery to remove a colon tumor.
