CONSTABLE - A Quebec woman was killed during a Saturday morning accident involving two motorcycles, while the passenger of the second motorcycle was airlifted to Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt., for injuries, state police said Monday.
Barbara Hamelin, 45, of Mercier, Que., who was a passenger on a motorcycle operated by Alain Legault, 51, of Mercier, Que., was pronounced dead at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. Lisa Gentile, 39, a passenger on a motorcycle being operated by Antonino Triassi, 49, both of Montreal, Que., was airlifted by Life Flight to Burlington, where she was listed in serious condition with internal injuries.
State police said the accident took place at approximately 10:09 a.m. Saturday in an area south of the Trout River port of entry in the town of Constable.
They said Mr. Legault was operating a 2004 Honda VTX 1300Z south on state Route 30 when he lost control of the motorcycle entering a curve in the roadway at the intersection with New Road. Mr. Triassi, who was operating a Suzuki VL 1500 and also traveling southbound, attempted to avoid Mr. Legault. Both motorcycles collided and ran off the west shoulder of the roadway, striking a Department of Transportation sign. The two motorcycles ran into a ditch, ejecting all four riders.
All four were taken to Alice Hyde Medical Center, where Ms. Hamelin was pronounced dead and Ms. Gentile was air lifted to Fletcher Allen Health Care. Both operators were treated for minor injuries and released.
An autopsy for Ms. Hamelin is scheduled for Monday.
State police said their investigation into the accident is continuing.
