POTSDAM: Daniel R. Reed, 67, passed away on August 24, 2014 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. There will be no public calling hours. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Knapp Station Community Church, with Pastor Lee Sweeney presiding. Dan was born on April 28, 1947 in Massena the son of Carl and Erma (Preston) Reed.

Dan worked construction in Maryland area for many years, after that he set out on his own starting Reed Fencing. He enjoyed classic cars, especially his 1962 Ford Fairlane, which was his pride and joy. Dan was a member of the Ford Fairlane Club of America and would travel around to different car shows with his car, where he would often win and receive trophies. He was also an avid bowler having played in leagues for many years and loved spending time with his family.

Dan’s survivors include his mother, Erma Rabideau of Potsdam, NY, his step-mother, Eleanor Reed of Norfolk, his companion, Linda Fitzwater of MD, a son and two daughters, Shawn and Debbie of Hagerstown, MD, Patricia and Dusty Ignasiak of Hedgesvillle, WV, Danielle Reed of VA, a grandson Matthew Reed, and several step grandchildren.

Dan is also survived by his siblings, Jackie Jennings of FL, Damon and Barb Reed of WV, Denise and Sonny Mellott of FL., Tena Allen of Fl., Celeste and Dale Planty of Norwood, NY, Carl “Mac” and Marie Reed of MD, Colleen and Paul Devine of Norfolk, NY, Jeannie and Scott Williams of Potsdam, NY, Lena and Larry Montuori of MD, Patsy and Pat McNulty of Raymondville, NY, Joann Rabideau of Norfolk, NY and many nieces and nephews. Dan was predeceased by his father Carl, his step-father, Harold “Pete” Rabideau, and a niece, Layla Shenski.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Foundation or Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
