Massena man charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, drug possession


DWAI DRUGS - MASSENA - Village police charged Mathieu J. Woods, 31, of 303 County Route 40, Massena, with driving while ability impaired by drugs, reckless driving, possession of a hypodermic needle and two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance following a traffic stop at 2:05 p.m. Tuesday on Paddock Street. Village police said they responded to a reckless driving report who reported he had been following a vehicle that had swerved into the opposite lane and forced other drivers to take evasive action during a trek from the Canton area to Massena. They said after the traffic stop they found Wood was in possession of four Buprenorphine Hydrochloride (suboxone) 8 mg pills, 3.5 Alprazolam (Xanex) 2 mg pills and two hypodermic needles. Village police said they were assisted by in their investigation by a drug recognition expert from the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department. They also said Woods consented to have blood drawn at Massena Memorial Hospital to determine if there were drugs in his system. He was released on an appearance ticket for Massena Village Court.
