ASSAULT - MASSENA - A Massens man was jailed on $2,500 bail after he reportedly injured a village police officer that had responded to a disturbance complaint at 11:05 p.m. Tuesday at the Rusty Wheel Tavern.

Village police charged Stephenson Deshane, 37, of 130 County Route 43, Massena, with second-degree assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned by Massena Village Justice Eric J. Gustafson and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond.

Police said they responded to a report of a fight in progess at the bar and when they arrived they found Deshane arguing with his wife, Laura.

They said they separated the two parties, and Mr. Deshane went and sat in a female friend’s Jeep. While sitting in the vehicle, a third female reportedly approached him and started screaming at him.

Mr. Deshane then reportedly attempted to walk away from the area and pushed Ptl. Cory Francis as he moved past him. He then reportedly became involved in a brief altercation with Ptl. Ian Vanier as the officer attempted to handcuff him and place in custody for pushing Ptl. Francis. Ptl. Vanier was treated at Massena Memorial Hospital for a shoulder injury he suffered while attempting to take Mr. Deshane into custody, according to court documents.
