Funeral services for Evestyne Terrance, age 93 of Ogdensburg will be held on Sunday (Aug 31, 2014) at 3:00pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Ogdensburg with Rev. Laurena Will officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Pierrepont Hill Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held also on Sunday from 1:00 – 3:00pm at the church prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Terrance passed away on Thursday morning (August 28, 2014) at her home surrounded by her longtime caregivers Julie Besio & Faith Armstrong.
Surviving are nieces & nephews Gerald Coller, Ronald Coller, Georgia Mitchell, Glenyce Boone, Cheryl Barney, Andria Rood, Sharon Janack, Shirley Coller, Susan Harkins, Barbara Alford, Charlotte Moore, Lorna Michie; along with many cousins. Her husband Joseph Terrance along with a sister Evelyn Coller; two brothers Ivan & Everett Coller and an aunt Ella Dean predeceased her.
Evestyne was born on April 20, 1921 in Pierrepont NY a daughter of the late George & Vanila (Clark) Coller. She graduated from Canton High School in 1941 and later married Joseph Terrance on May 30, 1964 at the Methodist Parsonage in Canton. He predeceased her on February 7, 1985.
Early in her career she was employed at Empsall’s, Freedmans & Samilson’s Clothing Stores in Ogdensburg and at the home of the St. Lawrence University President. She then became employed at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center Food Service Department in 1947 where she worked until her retirement in 1977. Evestyne was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Lisbon, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and AmVets Ladies Auxiliary in Ogdensburg, Ogdensburg Presbyterian Women. She enjoyed traveling, flower gardening, baking and spending time with her family.
Her last trip she enjoyed was with her dear friend Ruth Bogardus, who escorted her in flight to Evestyne’s niece Charlotte’s wedding in Ormond Beach FL in 2009. Evestyne was truly blessed to have her nurse/caregiver/personal assistant Julie Besio “Jewel” by her side for the past four years following her devastating stroke in July of 2010. She also was blessed to have her dear friend, David McMahon assist her with many home maintenance issues throughout these past four years.
