OGDENSBURG - The Norwood-Norfolk Central varsity girls soccer team opened the season by dropping a 3-1 decision to host OFA in the first round of the Gerry Cring Memorial Tournament on Tuesday.
The Lady Flyers got off to a promising starting when Kim Stewart finished off a play set up by Hannah Seguin in the 18th minute but the Lady Blue Devils pulled even in the closing minute of the first half on a goal by Alicia Shaver.
Kaylee L’Orange netted the eventual game-winner 14 minutes into the second half and Shaver added the insurance goal three minutes later.
Breanna Deshane made nine saves working the Norwood-Norfolk crease while Garcia turned aside seven shots backstopping the win.
The Lady Flyers will now get set to take on Lisbon in the tournament consolation game this evening a 6 p.m. Heuvelton beat Lisbon 1-0 in the other first round game and will face OFA in the title game at 8 p.m.
Heuvelton 1, Lisbon 0: Hannah Thornhill finished off a play set up by Olivia St. Pierre and Paige McCormick five minutes into the game and the Lady Bulldogs made it stand as the game-winner.
